Vietnamese entry visa is required for all foreigners wishing to visit Vietnam except citizens (nationalities) of countries having visa exemption inclusion in bilateral consular agreements with Vietnam. No Vietnam entry visa required for travel less than:

 

- 30 days: Citizens of Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Brunei and Laos.
-  15 days: Citizens of Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Russia and Finland.
-  90 days or several visits within 6 months: Citizens of France holding valid diplomatic or official passports.
-  60 days: Citizens of Chile holding valid diplomatic or official passports and APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) holders from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies.
- 15 days: Travel to Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam: Foreigners and Vietnamese nationals bearing foreign passports who enter Vietnam through an international border gate and then travel to Phu Quoc Island and stay in Phu Quoc Island less than 15 days will also be exempted from Vietnam Visa. Passport must be valid for at least 45 days. After arriving in Phu Quoc Island, if visitors want to travel other places or stay in the island for more than 15 days, the immigration department will be responsible for issuing visas right on the spot.
-  90 days: Vietnamese overseas if holding Vietnam Visa Exemption certificate.

  You can apply for a Vietnam entry visa at Embassy of Vietnam in your country by mail or in person. The process and fees vary from embassy to embassy and according to the type of visas and length of stay. You need to submit your original passport whose validity must exceed that of the visa by at least one month to six months, one completed application form which can retrieved online or distributed at the Embassy, one passport photograph taken not more than one year ago, affixed to the application form and visa fee. Normally, the fee should be paid in cash or guaranteed Cheque, postal order or bankers draft. The fees and requirements are regularly adjusted so please contact the Embassy by mail or telephone for relevant fee information.

 

Now, you can also apply for a Vietnam entry visa at any travel agent in Vietnam. This is called Visa on arrival which means getting the visa upon arrival at the Vietnam international airports (Noibai airport in Hanoi, Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang airport in Da Nang) or border crossing.
In order to get the visa upon your arrival, an approval letter needs to be obtained in advance. The approval letter is the letter approved by Vietnam Immigration department allows you to enter and exit Vietnam for a given period of time. With the approval letter, you can get Vietnam visa not only at a Vietnam international airports and border crossing but also at Vietnam Consulate/Embassy in your country.

In addition, only necessary information such as your name, passport number, date of birth and nationality is required and the fee is also much cheaper than applying at the Embassy so it is recommended.

 

There are several travel agents in Vietnam can process the visa approval letter for you. However, the processing fee varies from agent to agent. The fee should be from 10 USD to 35 USD/one single entry visa for one month. Only necessary information such as your name, date of birth, nationality, passport number and entry date should be provided. After 1 or 2 business days, the agent will send you a visa approval letter through email. You only need to print it out then show it with your passport and one passport photo to get your visa stamped upon your arrival at Vietnam. Beside the processing fee that should be paid to the agent in advance to get your visa approval letter, a fixed stamp fee in cash (credit card will not accepted) will be required at the airport to get your visa stamped. At the airport or crossing border, it will take about 10 minutes to get your visa.

 

Regarding type of visa, you can apply for a tourist or business visa depending on your purpose. The Vietnam business visa grants holders the right to attend meetings, conferences and other business-related activities. However, the holder is not permitted to be employed in any capacity during their time in Vietnam. All types of visa can be extended in Vietnam.

 

Visa rules and fees for children should follow the same procedure as adults if they have their own passports. Children who are included in parents’ passports do not need separate visas and are not charged. However, their names must be stated in their parent’s application.
